I have two APS-C (70D and 600D) bodies with Canon EF and EF-s lenses, and Sigmas, among them the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM OS. I am also considering getting the new Tamron 150-600 lens, pending reviews. I was just curious if a Canon extender, specifically the canon EF 2X III, will work on the Tamron and/or Sigma lenses.
7D + EF 2x III + 70-200 USM IS II. Hi, I own a 7D and and a 1DX, shoot sports with the 70-200 L IS USM II and sometimes use the 1.4 extender III. I chose not no purchase the 2X extender because I will lose 2 light stops. I find that the lens/camera combo perform faster focusing without the extender.
I recently got a hold of the Canon 2x Extender Version III. I primarily got it to pair with a Canon 70-200 f2.8 MkII to take it up to 400 mm, but I was interested in seeing how it worked with the Sigma. The following 2 images were taken on a tripod, about 50 yards out from an Osprey at rest in full sunlight.
The EF 2x II--which also maintains an EOS camera's Image Stabilization technology--carries a one-year warranty. Magnification: 2.0x. Lens construction: 7 elements in 5 groups. Dimensions: 2.8 inches in diameter and 2.3 inches long. Weight: 9.3 ounces.
The 70-200 is not the ii version. Then I'd avoid TCs, the focusing isn't going to be great with a TC. The 100-400 is pretty good, but the 70-300L is all around better (~$1100 used) aside from not going to 400. It doesn't take a TC though. I have the 70-200 2.8 L Non IS and have used both the 2x and 1.4x extenders.
5Ds + 70-200 f/2.8L IS II + 2ex III - 400mm f/5.6 ISO 640 + .5EV in post. I cropped away 60% of the pixels (from 50.6 down to 20.2 - a 3:2 aspect ratio with the same width would have been 13+ MP) and then downsized to 2048 pixels square. EDIT: uploading to Flickr and linking it appears to be a much better way to go than uploading to DPR.

Buy the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens. Ditch the thought of the 2x tel-con. If you must get one buy the 1.4x. If you think you want 400mm look at the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM Lens. It is a must have lens. Personally I don't like to tag a lens with a certain moniker. There isn't a 'landscape' lens per say.
