Taking the lords name in vain. Why does the LDS church interpret the 3rd commandment literally "dont take the lords name in vain". They are so offended by saying the word God, and believe it to be a curse word. When the commandment means not doing things that are awful while exclaiming you are doing it for God or because God said so.
"Lord, have mercy" became reminds to ask God for pardon. Now, I find that I mean it when I say "Thank God" or "Lord, have mercy" 99% of the time and I don't find myself saying it in other contexts except for one or two rare occasions.
