See if you can get the bluetooth to show up by making a bootable USB installer from the link below. Boot from the Ubuntu installer and select the option to 'Try Ubuntu without installing.'. See if you can turn on the bluetooth device in Ubuntu. If you can, turn it on, and shut down the notebook. Do HP laptops have a built in equalizer that also works for Bluetooth headphones? I have heard that windows removed the equalizer in the sound settings in the newer windows versions. I have a HP Pavilion 13 and I do have an app called HP Audio Control which has an equalizer but it doesn't let me set equalizer settings on my Bluetooth headphones.
